At The Wood Project, we build recycled timber dining tables made from wood we source and salvage ourselves. This timber is sourced from the tree removal sector throughout Melbourne and the Morning Peninsula, which is then milled and kiln dried by us at our workshop in Hastings, Victoria.

We’ve made it our goal to make sustainable, beautiful and practical timber dining tables that are affordably priced and accessible to all. As an alternative to plantation wood furniture, our recycled timber dining tables can be customised to your needs and are made with love and a high level of craftsmanship.

With three different kinds of dining tables available, we know that we can create something that’s suited to all kinds of homes, families and interiors. Each type of table is set apart by its structure and leg composition and can be tailored by its specs, timber and finish options.

Slab Tables vs. Board Tables

Previously, we only offered slab dining tables, but are now excited to announce new designs on offer. Our recycled timber dining tables now come in both slab and board options, with something for everyone now available.

Our staple slab tables are instantly recognisable thanks to their natural, earthly appearance, with live edges, organic lines and notches that add charm, personality and intrigue to any space. Board tables are well suited to modern homes thanks to their contemporary, sleek design.

Both options can make a fantastic addition to your home, offering an environmentally friendly warmth and charm that we know you’ll fall in love with. Our team is on deck to answer any questions you might have and help you make the right choice for your home, with a variety of sizes, finishes and woods on offer for all our recycled timber dining tables.

Our Timber

Here at The Wood Project, our recycled timber dining tables represent a mission that’s very close to our hearts. We take timber that would have been discarded and gone to waste and turn it into durable, stylish and functional pieces of furniture that act as a centrepiece in homes across the country.

Because our wood is sourced from tree removal projects, much of it comes from trees that can be over a century old. Each piece of timber has its own story, which can be integrated into your home and add a special touch to your interior. The tables we make are a labour of love and there’s nothing we enjoy more than working with our clients to create custom recycled timber dining tables that will live on in their families for generations to come.

If you’re looking to elevate your home while minimising your carbon footprint, the team at The Wood Project is here to help. To find out about our services, contact us today and we’d be more than happy to guide you through this process and help you create the dining table of your dreams.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Read some of the commonly asked questions from our customers about custom-made dining tables.

  • Right here, by us, in our Hastings Factory on the Mornington Peninsula

  • We locally outsource the manufacturing of the steel dining table legs. We design every set of legs for their unique slab top. This enables us to seamlessly fabricate the legs to showcase the beautiful timber top and ensures that legs will be hidden when there are large resin voids etc in the timber.

  • The quality and beauty of your timber slab table top can be easily maintained. The patina of the timber will change over time adding to the beautiful character of your timber top.

We recommend using a damp soft cloth, usually warm soapy water is enough. We recommend you refrain from ever using any type of cleaning solution or solvent on our timbers. Never leave spills for long periods and always wipe dry.

  • Our timber boards are cut from recycled trees, this means the timber has high feature such as sap veins and pockets, compression grain etc - often when you buy furniture from larger organisations the timber quality and grain can be very basic - you can not compare our timber to that.

  • It's preferable to avoid placing your indoor table in sunlight or in the direct path of air conditioning systems. The timber will naturally expand and contract, but sunlight & great variations in temperature & humidity will exacerbate this movement. We take the utmost care in drying our timbers to ensure optimal moisture content and with larger slabs in most cases we relief cut the underside of the slab to allow for movement.

  • We have timber board samples available that you can purchase from our online store. If you choose to go ahead, the cost of your sample will be deducted from your dining table quote.
