Salvaging logs to create kiln-dried live and straight-edge timber slabs ready to order - direct to the public
At The Wood Project, we specialise in providing sustainable hardwood timber slabs, perfect for various projects, directly to the public. Our process begins with the careful salvaging of logs from across Victoria, all of which are milled into high-quality timber slabs. These slabs are then kiln-dried and ready to be ordered online or viewed in person at our warehouse.
We take pride in our commitment to sustainability. None of the timber we offer is sourced from commercial forestry. Instead, we focus on salvaging timber that would otherwise be discarded—often destined for burn piles or landfill. By giving these incredible trees a second life, we not only preserve a piece of history but also reduce waste in the process. Each slab has a unique history, and we’re proud to share it with our customers.
About our Timber Slabs
Our range of timber slabs includes a diverse collection of natural 'live' edge slabs sourced from a variety of ever-changing timbers. You’ll find slabs made from iconic Australian species such as Red Gum, Messmate, Sugar Gum, Bunya Pine, Cypress, English Oak, Cedar, Claret Ash, and more. These slabs are milled, kiln-dried to a moisture content of around 10 percent, and ready for use in creating stunning furniture or timber products. Whether you're looking to create a hardwood dining table, bar top, bookshelf, or custom timber vanity, our slabs are perfect for any project.
The 'live' edge of our slabs preserves the original shape of the tree, providing each piece with natural beauty and character that simply can’t be replicated. The grain patterns, knots, and textures in our timber tell a unique story—often reflecting the age of the tree, which can be over 180 years old. With live edge timber, no two pieces are ever the same, making each slab a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
In addition to live edge slabs, we also offer the option to have your timber slab milled with a straight edge on one or both sides. This allows for a more polished, modern finish if you’re after a sleeker look for your project. Whether you prefer a natural, organic feel or a more refined finish, our slabs give you the flexibility to create exactly what you envision.
